Q3075 Patriotic Redwork Quilt. More pictures. Signed and dated 1898. I never get tired of looking at this quilt. It is great fun and a piece of our history as shown through quiltmaking. There are ninety delightful blocks, including six Patriotic blocks (George and Martha Washington, Admiral Dewey, the Liberty Bell, Remember the Maine, and two different flags). Some blocks offer moral and religious sentiments while others are just plain fun to read such as : "Down valleys deep and mountains high, we've wandered together my sole and I" (embroidered inside a shoe sole). Even the botanical, animal and children blocks are interesting. The bottom right corner block is embroidered as follows: "This work was done by Mrs. J.C. Zahn, Fairplain, Penna. 1898. Our photos may make the quilt appear washed out, but the embroidery is a very strong red and not a bit washed out. Top and back are a cream colored, high grade cotton. Very thin cotton batting. Quilted in small clamshells over the entire quilt at 8 stitches per inch. Very good condition; some light stains and one pinhead size hole. 74x78. $2,000
